  • An Almost Olympian

    Well, not really.

3 years ago I oversaw our Japan business, and a supplier who was a sponsor of the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo asked if I wanted to carry the torch. (Ok, I called in every favor and asked every person I could until they said yes to me and two other people on my team.)

Covid happened and the run was postponed. And then postponed again. And then cancelled.

Out of the blue I got a package with my Olympic torch yesterday! I didn't get to actually run it, but still got a heck of a souvenir.

It's still got the plumbing inside, but they burned a little hydrogen cylinder that they didn't send... one of my guys who lived in Japan got to actually attend the torch run, but since they were socially distanced they didn't light the torches either. Only a few sections and events got to "blaze" as it were.

A single sheet of aluminum made from recycled shelters they built after the earthquake and tsunami, and then plated in something.

Wow, neat souvenir and story. Sounds like you have the framework for a tragic poem. 😉
