Hey Gary, That looks like home here in the U.P. We have nine months of winter and three months of easy shoveling. LOL

Hey Ron, where I lived in Fairbanks, AK for 30 years the snow stayed on the ground from Oct. 15 till April 15 on the average. That's at about 500 ft. above sea level. And of course we could have snow anytime after Sept. 1 but it usually melted but anything that fell after Oct. 15 was there until mid to late April. And soon as the snow was gone the mosquitoes came out.

Yep no good for artifact hunting. Ground probably frozen hard enough that you can't dig and the creeks are frozen or are they? Nice photos and it looks like fresh snow of 3 inches or so. Were the pictures taken recently? Surely that's not the season accumulation in your area or is it? Not enough to play in except maybe some cross country skiing. Do you guys in So. Dakota have frequent winter thaws where it melts off to bare ground? Guess it depends on where in the state it is. I always figured the Black Hills area might have snow all winter where you could do some serious snow mobiling.

Joe, we have had several thaws this winter, and not much snow up here in the NE corner this winter. The ground was just getting bare. This was all fresh. We usually get snow late October to early Nov, and it usually stays until April. Nothing is usual anymore. We had 60 degrees about a month ago for a couple of days. Two days later we woke up to -20. We changed 80 degrees in a day. The SE part of the state is a lot milder than the NE.
We haven’t had a lot of snow this winter. The mountains out west have a good snow cover most of the winter.
