  • Spring in Carter County

I am sorry I haven't been posting much lately. It's turkey season, and spring cleaning season. I have been splitting logs from a fallen tree, and burning brush piles during the rain. I haven't had time to do any knapping, but I did manage to get some nice photo's of the place. More pictures will be added in the future!

This is the only turkey that I have seen so far. He attacked my decoy, but I let him go.

What you do is, wait until you have a rain system coming in. Beforehand, tarp up the pile you wish to burn. Then when it starts raining, take the tarp off and throw a large rag, or an old towel soaked in Tiki lamp oil. It is not like gasoline - it will not explode. Light that, and the oil will burn long and slow. Even if you have to place one or two rags on the pile, it will still light.

I know this works for Kentucky brush, but I am not sure about Georgia stuff. It's all pine, isn't it?

Great idea passing this to the burn master Wayne .
Never thought of a tarp .

The brush needs to be dry as a bone. We usually cut up the brush, and let it sit for three to four weeks under a tarp before we burn.

Spring storms rolled in on Monday. The second picture is unfortunatley out of focus.
