  • Finally...

I havent been on the forum since the beginning of September. Archery elk season started the 5th... Ive gone just about every day since the opener. Really hot weather and a late rut has made it difficult. Not to mention some bad luck.. that all changed just before dark last night. I was doing some calling and got a big bull to respond. Before he got ther though this little guy beat him to the call. I'm not picky, just fillin the freezer. When I got home my littlest one said "dad you finally got me some elk steaks!"
It was late so we all went up to load him this morning. Luckily the bears hadnt found him yet...

            Nice work..
Do you call with a reed? or a tube call?
My very favorite way to hunt is to get you set
up on the “trail” and I get 60-80 yards behind and “thrash” a sapling and call“ come and get some”.
With the age of your children, your best hunts are just about to start.

I have a tube bugle. My favorite cow call is the hyperlip single. The combo is lethal to a rutting bull. Ive found loud eeee-oooos on the hyperlip followed by a ripping lip bawl bugle will even pull a herd bull off his cows. I took the middle two kids up last tuesday and I called in a really nice 6 point bull. He was screaming at 30 yards... I held for 40 and overshot him, but the kids were thrilled. My older girls are hunting already. I've posted their successes on here in the last few years, but your right the best is yet to come.
