    It is mantis mating season now and i can't hardly walk out my front door now and not have a pair plop down on me they just like to hang out on top of the door trim for some reason . Click image for larger version

    Man I loved these when I was growing up. I used to collect the egg sacks and put them in a jar and watch them hatch. We do not have them or very many down here in FL. I never see them here compared to NJ and SC...

        Brown one in my carport last week. We had tiny conversation. Have a book will find, from childhood, The Tall Grass. Great illustrations, all hand drawn

            The egg cases (the oothecae) are easy to spot in the fall, and left on the stick; are easy to place around the garden as a deterrent to harmful insects.

                When I was a lad, I brought a mantis egg sack into my room. I woke up one morning to hundreds if not thousands of little baby mantis all over my room. My mother was not pleased.
