That big mass of dark green is a tree covered in vines I should take care of this winter.

This was a banner year for Eastern Cottontails in Rhode Island. Never seen so many bunnies! We had a feral cat in the neighborhood knocking them off. Wanted to knock the cat off! I managed to save the first rabbit, but saw the cat get a couple more baby rabbits. Thankfully, the neighbor who owned the cat moved(!!, WHY own a feral cat!!).
Eastern Cottontails were introduced here. Our native bunny is the New England Cottontail. They are endangered, due esp. to competition from the Eastern. A friend, director of conservation at the Roger Williams Park Zoo, is helping the New England Cottontail. They are being released on uninhabited Patience Island, in Narragansett Bay, then moved to other areas in RI and other New England states. Very hard to tell the two species apart.
Here’s a release on Patience Island.
