Sorry, got the photo posted now. I have been keeping up with posts, I just don't get many opportunities to respond or add. I've been working like mad, now I'm guiding for the hunting seasons, this is what I was dragging out all afternoon yesterday!

Hello all, I have had a busy summer. I didn't find as much as I wanted, but hey when do we ever? I have been pretty busy, hunting points, exploring new sites, recording old ones, hunting deer, and now I am guiding big game hunters. Not much time to post, or even organize all my photos from this year. I thought I would jump on and post a photo of a knife my brother found while antelope hunting. He is not into points like I am, but still finds some nice pieces when he's out hunting animals. I thought the knife he found looked a little funny, and when I held it in my hand I knew why. If you look at the lower right corner of the triangle blade, there are some flakes taken from about a half inch from the base on each side of the corner. I thought, there's no way it's a corner tang, but when I held it, I'm a believer. The corner is heavily ground and looks like there used to be more prominant notches there. I wouldn't believe it looking at the photo either, but it is paper thin, and very well made, better than any other bi-face knife I've seen in this region for a while. He found the point not far from the blade, and it's about as well flaked as we find them up here. Hope everyone in AH is doing well, I've been busy as hell, and it's nice to jump back on and see new people and posts!

OK There is a lot of Iron Ore out here. Sometimes points found in this area of MO have a lot of stain if found near creeks and rivers.
Maybe heat did cause it or maybe mineral deposits. What this material most likely is turns pink when heat treated. The Knife is one of 2 of The nicest artifacts I have ever found. Flat and thin (no bevel) and probably from a time heat treating wasnt used much if any (maybe early archaic?) could be the stansfield type or maybe "just a knife" may never know. Kind of Flattered it got Your attention but at the same time have been trying to figure this point for a long time. :lol:
Here is heat treated burlington found in same creek. When h/t burlington doesnt seem to pick up much stain and or mineral deposits (patina is something I should study) but the good grade burlington will turn a nice pink color h/t.

Burlington, maybe. It was found near a creek :whistle: has stain and a small nick in the edge revealing a lighter material. The tip is kind of a cortex or rind I guess.
