  • Dover Township

I acquired this and a beautiful Upper Mercer Jack's Reef Corner Notched (which I have posted) from a high school friend in the late 70's.

Both artifacts were found on his family farm in Dover Township, Chatham-Kent, southern Ontario.

Any input re. classification of this point would be much appreciated.

I'm also interested in what toolstone the members might think it was manufactured from.

It's a tad over three inches and it is not ground.

$30 for the pair was a fair amount of dough to a fourteen year old in 1979.

No help with reclassification but that's a nice one. Looks Motleyish and like Ft. Payne chert but I'm sure that's not the case all the way up in Ontario.

Motley too far south, Tablerock/Bottleneck too far south, maybe Chesser? But even that is a shot in the dark being 3", but is found in your area.

          Thanks everyone.

I too considered the Table Rock/Bottleneck Stemmed cluster as they do distribute into SW southern Ontario where the point was found. My point does not have a ground stem which I believe is a diagnostic marker of the cluster.

It does also share some diagnostic affinity to a Motley and a Snyders.
