Antique tobacco Basket

I have collected a tobacco basket and am not sure what the symbol on the piece means, is anyone familiar with the design? Any info will be much appreciated

Do you know what tribe it's attributed to? What makes it a tobacco basket?

Thank you for your question, the tribe is Karuk from north west California a Klamath River Native American Tribe. Its considered a trinket basket, gift basket, or tobacco basket, it still has tobacco in it from when it was once stored inside of it.
