  • I.D. HELP?-2 diff. notches-with slant/angle base?

    Found-July 4th,2022
    Place: NW OHIO
Oh, any suggestions on how to remove what I wrote on it?
    It was written with a
'Pilot' brand 'precise/rolling ball, fine point'-marker/pen'

I tried rubbing alcohol, and a green kitchen scrub pad, barely took any off
I think it 'soaked' into the material?
I just think it looks worse with the/my writing,
if it was neater looking then it'd be ok.

Not sure on artifact ID. I had a friend tell me once that he removed ink from artifacts using clorex toilet bowl bleach gel with a tooth brush. He said it didn't damage anything. I've never done that personally though. I would try acetone first.

In my line of work we use a can of spray automotive brake cleaner to remove ink markings. Not sure if it will effect the material. Maybe try it on a waste flake of the same material first.

thanks for the replies; I will look up hopewll I'm new to this and so many 'types'
Oh also; it really did say 7/4/22
( the 2's in 22 was on a ridge or depression? so no loop at bottom of them ,the marker it went straight on me, and got worse/thicker when I went over it trying to make it loop)
I just looked at the replies and thought it looked sketchy like someone might think i was trying to remove early 'provenance;?
    I think is the word?
I have iphone vid of the find tho' so no worries

Hey Amazing Nature, that lithic sure looks like Prairie du Chien chert. Very common in SW Wisconsin. Could easily have traveled to your location.

        Hey thanks again,
I had lived in Florida 20 years, before ending up here in Ohio-
(WHY? its a long story lol)

So I just looked at a map-

I had no Idea Wisconsin was that close, for some reason I thought it was more west than that.
        Great!
Now I have another state "I have to" (ha ha) look up artifact types and images.
    Working...
