  • Lost Lake or something else?

Central Pennsylvania found. The base feels ground to me but the point is pretty heavily weathered overall. I'm thinking Lost Lake but Kirk Corner-Notched is so similar. Hopefully there's enough left of this point to go on. Thanks!

Possibly. I'm not sure you have enough left to say, with certainty. Looks like it was something pretty special.

There isn't enough left of it for me to even make a WAG.

I respect that. But sometimes WAGs are ok. They got me through organic chem.

I like that. Organic chem is a tough one.

I think Central Pennsylvania rules out Lost Lake. Kirk fits the area, but not enough left for me to say that vs another type.

It does look like punch notching, so most options are Early Archaic.

Hi there AC. I'm pretty sure you have what's left of a Diagonal Corner notch. Central Pa. early Archaic. Picture from Fogelman point type for Pa. and the Northeast. Kim

Thanks, Mattern. What book would you recommend for PA typology?

Lost Lake and Kirk Corner-Notched points are both types of projectile points commonly found in Central Pennsylvania, so your assumption could be correct. Lost Lake points are typically thin, lanceolate, and have a concave base while Kirk Corner-Notched points have a triangular or leaf-shaped blade with notches on the basal corners.
If you want a more accurate identification, I suggest consulting with a professional archaeologist or artifact specialist who can examine the point in person or through detailed photographs.

I am an Archaeologist. We don't recognize "Lost Lakes" here in Central Pa., they are so similar in style but the designation are different. Lost Lake is the south eastern name. K
