  • Looking but not taking?

I’ve been interested in artifacts for many years and would love to find something myself. I’m from ND but reside in NW Soth Dakota. Looking up areas to look in SD, seems like they hold some decent possibilities. I’ve read taking anything is highly illegal, so I’m wondering if I’ll get hassled if I’m just searching? I love hiking and I can’t imagine I could get hassled if I’m on public land looking?

No problem being on public land, and looking at the ground. Unrelated, as to specific location, I enjoy Dana Hollister’s videos of hiking Bears Ears National Monument in Utah. His clips often include shots of the artifacts he and his wife come across. Look, but do not take. Of course, on private land, with owner permission, you can try to find a point to both find, and collect. Good luck!

Welcome to our site Liberty. Get permission on private land and hunt away. If you will use this to search the Artifact resources that are here you will find vast information on collecting.
