  • Trilobite Fossil...

I'm new to the site and enjoy fossils and Native American artifacts. Seen this section and wanted to post some pics of a Trilobite fossil I found back in 1987. I was only 14 y/o then, and I found it along the river when I was hunting for turtles. It weighs about 4-5 pounds and it was tough carrying it home (about 4 miles away), but I think it was well worth it. It's a cool specimen! Hope you enjoy... Jeff

That's a neat and rather unusual preservation Jeff. Looks like the impression has been retained in a quartzite cobble. Never seen that before.
I keep six honest serving-men (they taught me all I knew); Their names are What and Why and When and How and Where and Who.

Thank you Painshill... I've never put much thought to the material it's on. In fact, at one point, I wrote my name and date on it (in permanent marker) and was going to take it back to the river for someone else to find. My dad said he didn't want to "haul it around" when we moved... I'm glad I kept it.

        It does look like quartzite.

It is a "Rock" when it's on the ground.
It is a "Specimen" when picked up and taken home.

Nice find. Thanks for sharing that!
Look to the ground for it holds the past!
