Location information and deposit if known is sometimes very helpful.
I don't know so much about it being a weed but it was living tissue at one time.

Sure looks like a fossilized something to me also. I think I like the Infantry button more though...

I found that WWI Infantry insignia while metal detecting where an old house sat a long time ago. Here's a clearer picture of it and another pic of what it would look like if cleaned up, but I like the patina on it.
