  • Piece of large skull with horn core

    I went to an estate sale a couple of years ago in Ne Texas.The man was an archeologist and collector.He had many Caddo pots so that is what had most of the folks attention.I s




    potted this in a pile of "petrified wood" and got excited.Pretty sure it came out of the Red River in Ne Tx or Sw Ar.I think I know what it is but would like to hear your opinions.

              That was my guess too.They're not common in this area but they do turn up occasionally.

                That was my guess too.They're not common in this area but they do turn up occasionally.
                They are extremely rare finds anywhere in the Great Plains region John ...nice acquisition.

                        So would I! 11KBP is quite right... it is musk-ox. Among other things, there's enough of the skull still attached to see that it had horns which "drooped" rather than "swooped":
