  • Bolivian Amuletos

Some pics of an amulet from Bolivia. Common practice for South American peoples to make offerings to the gods for protection and fertility of their lamas and goats. Has scrape marks on the bottom, offering some of the stone. Still has lama oil which was rubbed on it during the ritual.
Anyone have any interesting ritual pieces/stories?

From what I've read they go waaay back [Moche] in their usage and I presume they were of different animals. This example is from the 1800s so it's a youngin'. I'd think a soapstone was used, but hardstone is very possible too. I've not seen many on the [net] market so I'd say not real common. Maybe similar concept to the Native American birdstone.

This little guy is clearly a ram (right?), but what is first critter? (He’s kinda scary to me; looks like he’s got a giant maw!)

This little Minoan Horse I got in Greece my own amulet. Been carrying him around for years; had to sit at many tables, and he always stood next to my papers!
