  • Some old shell cache finds.

Here are a couple of old pictures of different caches I've dug over the years from different sites around the Caribbean and Venezuela.
    Five small Gorgets.

A handful of beads.  Kind of like some old coins that are crusted together, most of the beads here were clumped together.

This picture is really bad, but these beads were found "threaded" on beads and were probably some type of compound ear or nose ring.

This is a large gorget and all of the beads that were found with it.

This cache was a little different, relatively few small beads but some pretty cool effigies.  All associated with rain. (Water birds and a toad/frog.)  And a little green jade celt.

Not shell, but some very early Spanish trade beads from St. Lucia.  They've been studied by a couple of different bead experts, and are relatively rare examples.  They window of time when these were used was pre 1500 when another type of bead was introduced, which implies they were probably carried by one of the different ships under Columbus's command in his 2nd or 3rd voyage.

    Hong Kong, but from Indiana/Florida

          Thanks Joshua!
The frog, how old is it? Looks a lot like a pig. I know pigs were brought over to the Americas, so just wondering if that would be a possibility.
And I have to ask, You own a warehouse? Museum? an extremely large pole barn?

            .
That's an amazing array of artifacts - very nice!
Making shell beads must have been one tedious job: I can see why they quickly went
over to the imported glass types. Is jade native to those areas? What type of points are associated
with the time frame of your pieces - something tells me that you may have a couple. Thanks for the show!

Very nice indeed, and great to see unusual and different artifacts. Quite amazing to own something with a probable association with Columbus. Thanks for the show.

An awesome display of some amazing finds.
Joshua must live in a museum. One that a lot of
us would surely like to browse through.
There are quite a few items shown that nearly
all of us would like to handle.
Those "Columbus era" beads are what I would
refer to as one of the most fabulous finds an
archie could make, be it amature or professional.
Outside of finding a cache of "Gold"!!!!! :woohoo:
Thank you for taking the time to show us these.
We look forward to seeing the next find you have in store.
                  Jess B.
It is a "Rock" when it's on the ground.
It is a "Specimen" when picked up and taken home.

WOW... That's impressive. I wish I could find some time, and cash to get out and about to experience finding items like those around tropical locales no less!
