  • Marblehead Rhyolite At The Source

Marblehead Rhyolite is a lithic that was commonly used in New England. I did some research about this lithic and found geological surveys that spoke about this volcanic. Being in New England, volcanics are not terribly common. This outcropping is found in a very small area in coastal MA area so I made a field trip to see if I could find it.

Well due to the research, I was able to find this outcropping which absolutely blew my mind. This lithic was the source of stone used dating back to the Early Archaic period and maybe before. So much history in one little spot. Click image for larger version
