  • Need Help Identifying A Lithic Found In Coastal MA

I found these scattered on a NorthShore MA beach. These pieces have 2 distinct colors, a shade of yellow and gray. My area is not known for having chert, nor anything like agate. I have heard people talking about finding ballast flint from ocean going boats during colonial times. Is this what I found? Also interesting is that one piece of this material has a fossil shell in it. I though it was one of the limpets I had to pick off the some of the pieces but it is certainly a part of the rock.

Update! After researching, this appears to to be be ships ballast. At a very minimum, the dark stuff is from England. The yellow flint is possibly France but there is no way to tell without getting tested as far as I know. I am sure there is someone out there that knows more about this than I.
