Out in the Winkler County, TX, sand dunes this past weekend with TexAg, I finally found a point. Usually TexAg finds them and my part is to say, "Ooh, neat!" This time I got to find one.

I didn't get an in-situ shot because I only saw the edge sticking out of the sand and thought it was just a flint fragment, so I picked it up. TexAg told me the next-best thing to getting an in-situ shot is to lay it back where I found it and shoot it there, so that's my first shot.

I've been interested in artifacts most of my life, but only found one previously (in 2004) by dumb luck while out quail hunting. I've purposely hunted them before, but didn't know what I was doing, so I found none. It's helped to follow someone a little further down the road than I am. I have a few shots at different angles and lighting that I'll post.

I'm going to hope for the best in uploading these, because I'm not only a novice artifact hunter, but I'm a novice at using this site too.

I was reading a few different point-type descriptions today and consequently measured mine. It's 70 x 34 mm as nearly as I can tell with the accuracy of my measuring tape and the precision of my eyeballs.

Details, details... I'm excited to finally be on the scoreboard.

Thanks. Now, concerning the quail...that was in 2004! They're pretty much gone here too, although I have heard (not seen) a blue quail or two while out artifact hunting in the past month or so.

Some points just have cool eye appeal and this one caught my eye
                        Very nice.
Is it missing a big chunk off side B? My first thought uniface then closer look I can see the pieces that have been flaked away from side B

I see what you mean in the picture. It kind of looks that way. I just pulled it back out and looked at it and I don't think it's missing a piece, but I'm certainly not an expert. Yes, side B doesn't look as nicely worked as side A, but it is definitely worked.

Yes, I noticed that difference, too. Maybe knapper just gonna make unifaced, but was on such a roll that when turned it over, thot “well, maybe just few tiny flakes off edges”. Interesting, huh……
