  • Stone Box Grave

First I want to give my thoughts and opinions on things but then some link's about these burials. The first I heard of this was about a recently built mega shopping plaza and what they found, and removed. Sure it bugs me a bit what's done is done though. Truly old graves are not always left alone for who was left there to rest. Graveyards from the 17 and 1800's have also been exhumed for development, being quite old isn't a reason to have less respect though. Knowing that a group of people first inhabited the land long ago in ancient times and put time into a loved ones resting place is a touching thought. Sometimes things are complicated though I guess? So maybe Ancient burial sites shouldn't be built on, remove it and it's gone. Maybe that's how the developers think and how it would be a task to build around them. Maybe even superstition, who knows but things happen and I do admit it's better the archaeologist's do it respectfully (if possible?) and document the remain's and artifacts left at the location rather than some guy operating a dozer and doing who knows what with what is there. Touchy subject I know these are the findings of those who were left to rest and that they did for a very long time. Thinking about it now it's a great thing (burial) but I don't believe I wan't to get in anyone's way after I'M gone.

When I'm gone I'm to be cremated and my ashes are to be dumped over the home of the largest developer in Indiana.

I guess all the Developers should be required to watch the " Crow Indian Burial " Scene in the Movie "Jeremiah Johnson" Don't think it'll change their mind though when $$ is involved. "Nothing New Under The Sun"

Six nations - you got it right. When it comes to $$$ developers and many others could care less. This is why I've avoided digging for artifacts - the fear of finding a burial. I did, not long ago attempt digging in a rockhouse below my home, with permission of the owner. Found lots of debris but that was all. Whew.

Josh I know of a local man building a house near by and when they were digging their septic tank they uncovered two stone box burrials. They covered em back up spent more time and money to clear a lil more area and place the tank in another area. Good folks, they are rock hunters and wondered what was in graves but their good morals led their decision to respect the dead. I tipy hat to em.
