Had a fun surface hunt with my son in shelter L1. We tried digging but is still wet so instead of struggling we decided to surface hunt it and was rewarded with huge piece of pottery and am able to get an idea of what it looked like . Probably for food storage or acorn processing . Was great find for sure . We found another piece of rim of a large pot and in a pic show it attached to the large one but is from an entirely different pot I’m just putting it on to give y’all an idea . The large piece is still not properly cleaned but seems to have some nice red colors to it like paint ect. We found some stone tools from an area that we’ve not disturbed before and was remnants of a cooking/ working area and has some semblance of a fire ring. We found a nutting stone and pestle/ nutcracker and a grinding stone surface finds . Also we took some videos and will post links. We have a video of a fire ring I’ve posted pics of before but we wanted to look to see if stones were tools which they were. I found an interesting piece of flint off a flint nodule and has the silhouette of a face could be coincidence but looking at their artistic expressions in the huge pots not hard to imagine them making a flint image. I enjoyed the video and it is a nice rim shard for sure. Doubt if you would ever find a whole pot at the shelter, it likely being a seasonal use camp and the people would have taken the whole pots back home. What you are finding there are the ones accidentally broken.
