Another ceramic piece from Lake county Florida.
I don’t know why the folks up there were non conformists, but I do know a teensy bit about this one
So basically you have a bowl made and you wanna stick little flowers on the outside, well you gotta make em separate from the pot..There you have it, that’s what this is a little flower ( just kiddin about the flower part), but it does have a meaning lost in time.
It, like the others has remnants of red ochre, signifying a ceremonial piece..The ole boys up at Astor park weren’t too concerned about quality workmanship as long as they got the basic idea across ( whatever that mighta been)..This is a great artifact because it plainly shows the coiling method, almost never seen on ceremonial ware from Florida.in pic.1....Pic.4 shows where it broke cleanly away from the main pot...
