It seems as of late we have seen a lot of posts regarding things perceived as objects that they just are not. Lets see your favorite items that you kept because you thought it had a resemblance to a real item. Cmon artifact hunters we all have a few of them. Here are my favorite three in my thirty plus years. The first is Aladdins Lamp or cyclops bird head eppigie. The second is the sacred bear paw. The third is rockface...I felt like something was staring at me...lol lets have some fun here folks...

I was convinced this was going to be a tanged point until I picked it up. It's tree bark.
Here's my "Mr Grumpy" effigy. Natural, although I wouldn't rule out it having been curated, given that it came out of a Neolithic layer in the bank of a ditch.
I was convinced this would turn out to be an abrading stone, but closer examination says the marks are from flattened fossil plant stem impressions.
I keep six honest serving-men (they taught me all I knew); Their names are What and Why and When and How and Where and Who.

My grandmother had this for 40 years glued next to four arrowheads! As a kid I always looked at the felt covered board and it helped to spark my interest in all things artifactually Native American! I always thought it looked like a thunderbird. But after a house fire where she lost a lifetime of asian antiques, now I think it's a phoenix! It stays in a small box hidden away from all of the authentic artifacts that make fun of this poor bird at night when the lights are off and no one is in the room... But I love it, despite how much my proud points loathe it's existence!Last edited by utilized flake; 12-15-2019, 01:58 PM.North Carolina

Great thread. Unfortunately, I've been finding way more fakers than real artifacts lately. The "double grooved" piece might be the first thing I ever posted on this site 3 years ago. I had just found a couple arrowheads on someones property while checking out a creek with my son. I later got permission to go back and found this. Being new to the hobby, I thought for sure it was a maul or some kind of ax. After a lot of learning I realized it was weather stone with different layers of sediment. The other two objects...slime covered sandstone that looked all the world like an ax and a piece of brittle slate in the shape of a point.Last edited by flintguy; 12-15-2019, 08:12 PM.Central Ohio
