  • Hi there! What in the world is this?

    Hi! I'm new to creekwalking, could this be something or am I overeager?
    Found in Boone County, Missouri
    private land (with permission)
    it seems too small to be a tool but doesn't seem natural?

    Pretty sure it is a piece of graphite from an old battery, rub it on a piece of paper and if it marks like a led pencil it is graphite from an old battery

              I'm not saying no on the core but I have seen some old chalk types found from years past. Cant remember the proper name of them

              Welcome from Iowa. Think core is a good call. Should leave a black mark when rubbed on

                    Hi everyone! Thank you so much for commenting, it did leave a black smudge on paper, so I think those of you who suggested a battery core may be right!
