  • NE Pa manos, anyone?

Here are two manos I was lucky enough to find this year at a favorite spot of mine in Berks County, Pa. The tan one was the first to show up and was beautifully perched atop a deep till row just waiting to be picked up. The red one was found this last weekend and was revealed after the latest series of rains out there. Strangely enough, I have never found a single mano before and the fact that not one, but two show up at the same locality in the same plow season is even nuttier to me! Both pieces are nicely pecked and sides ground as well, affording beautiful symmetry. The age of the finds here span from transitional paleo (possible paleo, though no diagnostic tools/points have surfaced yet) through Mississippian.
