I found this years ago. Never knew what it is.
    Any ideas out there?

Does the small Hole on bottom of the Sleeve/Collar go through the other side for like a SET/Cotter  PIN?    Found out west or any place near mining area?

The hole does not go all the way thru.

My best guess is it's whaling/maritime related -and- possibly the end of a harpoon handle. The sleeve slipped over the wood shaft -and- screwed held in place.the eyelet was for rope/line attachment.  Most were brass but who knows ! Of course I'm taking a stab in the dark at what it it's!

The small hole on the open end was for a screw to hold the hardware to a wooden handle. The loop on the closed end was there to attach a rope. Probably a fishing spear. Just a guess.
Very similar spears are still used today to take pike through the ice in northern waters.
