That looks like a preform. Nice artifact!

What a find!!!  Is that a fine grained quartzite?  I can't tell.

I agree with Josh. It does look like a preform although it could have been used as a tool in its present state. Unfortunately, there is no way to assign a date or culture as this type of artifact could be used or made in any period spanning thousands of years.

The archaeologist may be right, i can see it being a clovis artifact.

While the width to length ratio fits into that possibility, I have a hard time making that jump personally. It's a nice artifact, no matter what you want to call it....congrats.

I agree with Cgode.   I like it though, sure is a great blade what ever you want to call it. Not every person will agree because it is six of one half dozen on the other. That could just be a thinning flake on the base.  Then again toward the upper part I might see an outre passe flake

I'm thinking its a bit of a stretch to call it a clovis,  but when you say clovis perform,  then its hard to argue that.

i WILL GO WITH CONTEXT, outre passe flaking was done through all periods weather intent or by accident. The purpose was to thin the lithic. The thing I see on this artifact is that it was not ready for the fluting process. And even with the stacks for basil thinning an outer passe from the side would have removed them.
I am not jumping on board for Clovis. But still a sweet find.
