  • Hoping for some help. Bead maybe?

Found in Greene county Ohio field find. I've been trying to find something similar but haven't been successful. My hunting buddy thinks it's a bead. Not 100% about material but seems like clay maybe. Any help would be appreciated thank you. Click image for larger version

I have a couple that are the same. They are a fossil of some kind. I cant remember what though. But who's to say that they were not used as a bead ? Good find...

Crinoid is the fossil... though I've never seen one with such a big hole. Maybe some exist with such a big hole or it's something similar to a crinoid stem.

Hey KKOhio, It is a natural crinoid stem however the ancient people did collect these fossils and use them as beads. The question is, "Was it collected by an ancient Native American?" If you found a lot of them on an ancient site then they were probably collected and worn by the people. They do make for an interesting adornment. These were collected on an ancient site in Texas:

Note the little projections off the side of the beads appear to have been smoothed...
