    For some reason these fascinate us. These are hammers and gouges. The siphon ends are beveled and work polished. Head Man tools of the trade.

    Never seen anything like that. What says they are gouges or hammers? I'm sincerely curious.
    I know they were valuable as craft material for sure.
    I actually found a partial conch spiral in the central Texas, about 200 miles from the coast.

      The wear on the siphon end and the man made bevel. The holes are for hafting. Florida is well known for these type of tools. These just happened to found clustered together as they eroded out of the bank.

        Salt water shells on freshwater river. Gulf is 5 mi away.

          Under appreciated. I can picture of the owner carrying them around in a bag and then dropping down nice find..

              Found one myself in Homosassa many years ago, on a shell mound under an up rooted tree. Used to hammer the shells of other mollusks. Fascinated as well!
