  • Beautiful little quartz point

I went back to a spot where I had some success recently. I spotted this perfect little quartz point. It has some nice flaking I hope I was able to capture in photos. It also has a flat end at the base with a bit of cortex left on. I’m just wondering on a type or age. Thanks

That type base according to William Ritchie was attributed to Lamoka points. He had a theory about how these were mounted . His thought was they were mounted in river cane and the flat spot was intentional as it would not splt the shaft so this flat spot wouyld be mounted against a node in the river cane. Given that the base expands slightly I would call it a Dustin varient.

Follow this link and read the paragraph under "shape" https://collections.nysm.nysed.gov/p...es/lamoka.html

Your appears to be a knife form Kaz. The assymetrical blade edges and the slanted base are tell tale signs of that. Still an awesome find.

Beautiful find.. Them stemmed side notched types always seem give me trouble identifying.
