  • New dig spot

Think I've acquired a dig spot, up on a terrace above a creek out of the flood zone. How deep should I go before I move to another area, I know a couple feet, but I've been told they've been found about 6 inches deep, don't know if it's a lie or not but the spot seems really good to have a small camp.

I never dug down as deep as 2ft (shoot, I’d prolly fall headfirst hole that deep!). I usually dig 6-14 inches deep with top of hole bout same width, and found good number of tools, coupla points. But I agree, when digging is really fun, go til dirt changes into clay …..

Every area is different but be sure to keep going dee I er as long as you are seeing flakes. Usually that means all the way to hard pan. In Texas, 8ft is probably the norm. I have dug layered sites 14ft deep and hill side erosion 25ft deep.
