  • Gun Flint?

    This piece is from Spencer County Indiana. Is this a gun flint? It's about 7/8 inch square.

    Sure looks like it Ron, although without a flat prismatic top so it could also be a scraper. Can you see any crushing in the hemispherical area at the top? That would clinch it for a gunflint. If so, not European material... home-produced and non-native American I would suggest.

      Thanks Roger, This came with a lot of ten hafted scrapers. I can't determine if it is a scraper or a gun flint. This picture is the area in question. I am holding it with the pointed side down.

        That doesn't look like the typical impact crushing you get in a notch created by the cap-screw in a gun hammer... so I would vote "scraper".

          I agree, not a gun flint. looks to be a scraper.
