After cleaning I could see what seemed to be part of a wreath in the upper left.
At first I thought a very badly worn quarter. But this is slightly larger than a quarter. It measures 25mm instead of 23.5mm in diameter.
It was also quite a bit thinner than a quarter.
And the other side seemed to have a barely visible outline of Vickie's profile with a bun.
I put the coin through Electrolysis to completely blacken it then tumbled it in vinegar to clean and this is the result.
I think you should be able to see the bust now.
And as you can see here there is lettering outside of the wreath on this one.
Well the long and the short is that one of the fellows on the other forum was able to identify the coin from the last set of pics.
1840/1849 East India Company half-rupee.
I sure do wish that it had been in much better condition as this is what it could have looked like.
But beggars can't be choosers and we take what we can get. :woohoo:
