  • Something new and something old.

At least it is new to me.
When I first kicked the branches aside I thought that I had found a rifle.

ID:	196291 Detecting is a game of inches.
And just like any other form of artifact hunting.
It does not matter if you are probing for bottles.
Or walking the fields looking for lithics or fossils.
If you miss it by an inch you miss it by a mile.
Usually you find out when someone else comes along after you and tells you what you missed.
Occasionally you find it on your 2nd or third time over the same area.
Yesterday started out with beautiful warm sunshine beaming down and no wind.
So I left my sweater at home and headed out.
The sun stayed but a very chilly wind picked up.
I was walking between the shadows of two trees, staying warm in the sun.
When I came to a point where I had to either move over or walk in the shadow I chose to move.
The very first swing of the coil gave an incredibly sweet response.
Dig a nice plug and scan the bottom of the hole.
    Nothing.
Scanned the plug and the pinpointer moved some dirt. Click image for larger version

If you are only going to find one keeper over two days it might as well be a nice one. Click image for larger version
