Mystery Object ?

This small bronze object appeared to me to be a possible earring. The patination is old, so I am certain it is at least medieval. The style I thought was roman and it came off a site that has both roman and medieval objects/habitation.

The gap is not worn out and the loop part is - as you can see - not completely circular, with the inner edge coming to a ridge. Any suggestions ?

Nice. Yep, it's a typical Roman earring style... like this one which is from VSKM collections in the Netherlands and dated to between the 1st-3rd Century AD:
