  • SD Yellow-Orange Quartzite Point

Gary collected this beautiful quartzite from his ancient site in South Dakota. I have knapped four points from the rock and still have enough material for another twenty or so. Thanks again Gary.

I believe now that I am becoming more experienced, I would like to try some quartz, or quartzite, but I wouldn't even know where to begin. Kudos to you for knapping such a tough material, and knowing how to do it! Looks great!

What is it like knapping quartzite? Is it a tough material to work with? What is your favorite type of quartzite to knap? Is there a wide range of difficulty between different quartzite's?

Forgot to mention, very nice job Ron, another beauty.

Thanks Mark, Some quartzite is near impossible to knap and some is easy. My favorite is the Tallahatta Quartzite that Johnny gave me. This beautiful quartzite is a challenge but not nearly as tough as some.
