  • 6" Obsidian Knife from a slab

I always wear gloves to knap this obsidian. It's as sharp as broken glass.

That's one of the best points you've ever made, symmetrically speaking. Bret has it right, smoker!

Technically it's as sharp as glass, 'cause it is glass.

Thanks Ethan but knapping obsidian is so easy it's almost like cheating.

I know. It's easy to thin down, so that's why I'll go nuts trying to get it under 1/4 or less, and break it half the time.

Sharper than a razor Ron, some surgeons use obsidian tipped scalpels . I’ve tried but never been able to find the person making the blades for the Doctors.. I’m surprised you guys don’t get serious wounds ! Super Blade , thanks for this and previous shows....

I'm thinking you must have a nice heated garage to work those pieces. Really nice piece you made

Thanks Glenn, No heat, all my knapping is in the cold this time of year.

                      So expert.

Have you hit a plateau in your skill? Is there anything left to master? Maybe just waiting for the arthiritis to kick in?

                      Thanks for showing us.

Hey Tom, There is much more to learn. Sometimes it seems that i take two steps forward and 3 backwards. I have only been knapping for a few years. The ancient people knapped for a lifetime.
