  • Rechipped Point

No we would never do this with an ancient artifact but it's okay to do this to a modern point. I took my hammered point and pressure flaked it. The point is still the same length but thinner and narrower. I believe this pressure flaked point would be more effective as either a knife or spear point.

Great job Ron, you got some nice flake travel and direction on your pressure flaking there. Looks like you knocked off the high points. Also, that’s a very unusual flake scar from the right side of the blade under that small finger nail flake, it looks like the flake traveled long and then deeper before it terminated. Was there maybe an inclusion or something there that caused that?

Thanks Bushman, I am showing the opposite face here. That was a divot in the percussion flaked point.

Ahh that makes a lot more sense, thanks for clarifying

That makes a nice comparison. The percussion flaked point is a nice useable blade as is but when it is pressure flaked it gets kicked on up the ladder. The streamlined version has a far more finished look.

Thanks Jeb, If the pressure flaked point was used on a hand held spear it would have much better penetration.
