Well, the news is pretty good. We got a very dry, powdery snow. Even now, not a spec of snow on my van, due to the high winds. And powder means no power failure!! Yay. That's the big thing. Powder means very few power failures. But to our East, the snow is a wet, heavy variety. I know the Island of Nantucket has no power whatsoever, for instance. We should end up with 12-24", with isolated higher amounts.  Less then 1000 without power in RI, closer to 500,000 in Ma. This storm will not break the record of 28.6" set during the Blizzard of 78. Not out of the woods, as the winds should be very strong for hours after the snow stops falling. Keeping fingers crossed, but I've certainly seen much worse.
You are most fortunate! After the infamous ice storm of '98, when we went a week without power between Christmas -and- New Years, afterwards we installed a small Danish wood stove in our fireplace. Then, after Hurricane Isabel took out our power for 2 weeks in 2003, we installed a whole house generator because a portable one is a pain in the wazoo. When Hurricanes Irene and Sandy paid us visits, we were ready! Maybe time to think about a generator?

well, we made it out with the snowshoes today, and let me tell ya,it was quite an adventure! the snow was up to my thighs in most spots (im like 5"6) even with the shoes on. we made it out to the spot and shoveled everything out then set up the shelter and had coffee, then a bit of playing around on the ice (and some whisky  ) and finally we cooked up a some steak and onions and potato's. another great day out in the trees!

That snow is showing up here in east TN now. Very light but supposed to turn over to ice then rain.  This past week has been a reminder of where I used to live LOL. supposed to warm up a little after tonight though.
