When our doe died leaving a single fawn just weaned, his older brother returned from banishment, and took him under his wing.

      It was remarkable.

They stuck together (and close to us) for a full year before disappearing around the time of the rut.

      We haven't seen them since.

I just love it . Like a Disney movie . I just watched some interaction on whitetail and the moms , sisters, aunts, grandmas all help out .
The bucks always stay together until the rut . I always wondered about this and was trying to look it up .
Tom you just answered it for me .

My neighbor had a pet baby deer about 7 years ago. Found it mowing hay. He and his 4 kids and wife bottle raised it. We live out in the country, everybody out here has a few acres, so it offers a sort of flung-together no hunting zone of sorts. That doe still roams around, visits him weekly at minimum, and brings a pair of fawns with her every spring. He also replaces her very large, reflective orange collar every fall, and he’s put one on one of the babies too. I don’t worry so much about the hunters getting them as I do the cars, and I know it has kept me from hitting her at least once, and my daughter also.👍👍👍

Mom, - who we named Misty, was rescued as a spotted fawn.

She'd been hit by a car and was badly injured.

My wife found her on the road and brought her home.

We drove all over the county, trying to get her treatment at various wildlife rescue services, but none would take her.

We were left with choice between calling Fish and Game (which certainly meant a bullet on the spot) or trying to save her ourselves.

It's illegal to keep wildlife without a licence in California.

I won't incriminate myself by reporting our decision.

Misty in homemade splint. 48 hours confinement.

Then outside in a bush by the house. She has road-rash on her snout.

Two weeks later she's on her feet. She wears a bell so we can find her.

Miraculously, Misty recovered from multiple leg fractures to a point where she could sprint, jump and live a natural life.

She's friendly to cats, dogs and people.
