Late this morning I spotted this barred owl sitting on my deck railing, hunting. The voles are still out and about and he/she (difficult to tell the sex of a barred owl by pattern) was taking advantage of the warm weather. I hear them calling at dawn and then again at dusk, but this is the first one that has come this close to the house in board daylight. It clearly saw me taking pictures but didn't seem to mind. I was hoping for an owl feather and this one did have a lose one, but sadly didn't drop it when it soared away.
Native Americans believe that owls are a source of illumination, believing that as their totem they can see the truth. That no one can deceive them with falsehoods. Seems Owl has been providing some enlightenment re. certain members we've encountered lately. Lol!! Its a handsome bird and one of my favorites.
