    Also, I don't know if the work that would go into making a celt would be worth $25, but maybe it would be easier than I think?

        Hey METACOM - I wouldn't know a real one from a replica. I have never seen one except here on AH.com but I sure like the looks of this one. IMO - Ya done good. ...Chuck

            The seller says it's granite from Marion County Ohio.

          I know the seller, he's a decent guy who wouldn't risk his ebay reputation by selling a fake celt. He uses an old crappy flat bed scanner because it's easy, but it doesn't do him any favors on the relics.

          A lot of old time Ohio collectors used to butter their hardstone, which unlike mineral oil, will absolutely leave that yellowed gunky surface over the years. Years of smoke will also do it.
