Yeah under a different heading..".learn about lithic material". I'm guessing that's why there are different areas of the forum...to address different questions . I posted this in show and tell after being asked to post any others that I had. I happened to mention in the description that I could use some help with the rock type, but didnt state this in the heading, nor was this my initial intention when I merely posted this to show. After making myself more familiar with the forum today, I found what I understood to be , a more appropriate area of the forum that might address my specific question based on the title of the said heading.

porphyry: a textural term for an igneous rock consisting of large-grained crystals such as feldspar or quartz dispersed in a fine-grained silicate rich, generally aphanitic matrix or groundmass. The larger crystals are called phenocrysts.Searching the fields of NW Indiana and SW Michigan

Nice...I just looked up the word porphyry and was able to expand on that and get an idea. Appreciate it. I found example, but the comment section wouldnt let me add a picture. See if I can insert into a comment below, RedLast edited by WindWalker; 09-02-2019, 06:25 PM.

I’ve seen some of that material around here in one creek but it’s a green instead of a black. I’d like to find something made from it. Sure is prettyNW Georgia,

Next time your out in the creek...grab a piece...start pecking and polishing and you'll be on your way. Lol...would be nice to have that talent wouldn't it? I'm sure some folks on here could bang that off. It's funny...I've been looking at it for so long that I forgot how special it was until I realized how many people liked it. This forum is great , Red
