    I use the probe for finding pottery in the desert.  Once you get the hang of it, you recognize the different thuds from what you touch.
    Time consuming, but easier than just digging and hoping you hit something.

      i used to probe plowed fields 3 years ago. i stopped doing it though because it is very time consuming and the dirt has to be in the right conditions. if not you feel like you hit a rock and then it turns out to be a chunk of dirt or a little rock. it almost has to me really muddy and watery conditions for it to work properly. other than that you will be out there forever and its a waste of time in my opinion

        You can join ARTIFACT ADICTIONS on Facebook.  There is a small group of members on there called MISSISSIPPI PoBoys, they just posted 3 videos on how to probe.  They are pretty good. 
        They found a chache a week or two ago and they usually video it. 
        We cant probe much here in KY too rocky, but it is definitely interesting.

          a probe is sometimes real useful to find an UNdug spot at a "minefield" site.   :laugh:  :cheer:
