He knows his town well, although he's definitely workin' on the fly. When it comes to city riding, he makes a lot of good points about taking the lane -and- avoiding the right curb area. Years ago I ran a landscaping shop in Southwest D.C. that was  four blocks from the monument grounds. I lived North of there, across town near Chevy Chase and only commuted by bike. One day a city bus decided he'd make a quick right turn on top of me: the only way I got out of it was by putting my foot on the side of the bus and turning my wheel to match the angle of his to follow through - fortunately there were no parked cars on the street to my right. Buses!!! Another time I had a pedestrian step into the street/my path without looking - I didn't knock her down (I was peddling from Georgetown, up the very steep hill on Wisconsin Ave: probably only doing a couple mph), and she was ok. - lesson learned.  I had a click of friends who were all cyclist (my housemate a bike messenger). One guy had his jaw and shoulder broken when someone kicked their car door open without looking - UGH! Staying to the right - not always a good thing!

Hey Josh,  Not a bad vintage bike - probably worth more than a Jackson. Does the frame fit you - how tall is the topbar?
Looks like an '85 Tourist 10 speed with aluminum wheels.

Grease -and- oil are relatively cheap: get a cold six pk., suspend it from a  tree limb (the bike) and give 'er a going over. A seat shouldn't be too hard to find (after 6 beers) . Some Pledge will shine up the paint.

Like 3 feet. An 85 huh, the wheels kind of look like they rusted but guess almost 30 years of dirt. I am wanting to keep my back straight while riding and the tall handlebars fit me, arms up like mongoose logo.
Looked at catalogue you linked and had no idea mountain bikes go back as far as 85, thought they were a "90"s thing. That shiny one i got actually fits great despite what most would think. Cant adjust it any better. If I didnt have the bikes to mess with this year (hot, no arrowheads either) would be truly bored.

                .
You may have steel wheels under that dirt that's making them look like Al. - a bit heavier, and when wet,  won't have quite as much stopping power:
still a doable ride. A comparable new bike in today's market would cost about $300. to $400., so well worth getting new 27" tires and a few things tuned. The Ross mtb I posted is from '86, but mountain bikes were on the drawing board by the end of the 70's.

Judging from the cars in the background when they set out in that old truck in the beginning maybe early 70's Very cool video!  I have done some klunking but we just called it riding in the the old farmers fields. we had jumps and banked curves and everything. Then we got minibikes and forget it no more bicycles. When I was about twelve I cut the forks off one bike and drilled holes through the open ends mounted them onto the forks and bolted to  my 20" I then lowered the seat by  drilling new holes in the sissy bar so the back of the  seat pretty much sat on the rear fender. It was hard a hell to peddle  it but it looked like a chopper

The video is from the late 70's. Probably called klunking because the bikes were pieced together from old sturdy 'clunkers'. They should have got trophys for riding up that 1,300' mountain on those heavy single speed bikes
