I am stoked about this find! It is a Civil War bayonet scabbard tip finale, that I dug up in my front yard! After finding about $7 in clad, and three wheat pennies over a three week period, I thought there was nothing left to find. However, I started digging "iffy" signals, and was rewarded with this!
Here is a pic of what it belonged to. Note the end of the bayonet near the tip.
This is the view from the hole where it was dug.
The white thing, shows the location of an Iron Furnace was, during the war. The 54th Virginia, and the 117th Ohio camped there. This finale must have come from one of the pickets stationed as a lookout.
